On Monday, 9th April, the Sylvans debated the resolution that ‘This House believes that the #metoo campaign is largely unnecessary.’
It was proposed by Paul Carroll and opposed by Elaine McLean.
There were a number of passionate and personal contributions from the main and floor speakers alike. A large consensus clearly condemned the abuse faced by women in many situations, and there was a thread of discussion on the awareness-raising campaign of #metoo on social media and its efficacy, amongst many other dimensions to the debate.
The final vote saw the motion defeated.
